LET'S CLIMB INCREDIBLE PICO MOUNTAIN.

If you are reading this article, you're one of those adventurous travellers who come to Pico to climb it… and that's amazing because it's a breathtaking experience!

All your preparations you should begin on the Casa da Montanha website. You cannot climb Pico unless you book it - there is a daily limit of visitors since the whole area is a Nature Reserve.

Decide on your climb purpose

There are a few options on how you can climb Pico: morning climb with the afternoon descent, afternoon climb with the morning descent, overnight stay and stunning sunset and sunrise experience or a climb just to see the sunrise or sunset, however it's quite dangerous to climb Pico at night.

How much time do I need?

You can climb Pico on your own when the weather forecast is really good. The climb usually takes around 3 hours and descent around 4 hours however the timing depends on your personal physical abilities. In general, it is recommended to climb Pico with a professional guide who not only will lead you to the top and back but also in case of a sudden weather change will safely direct you or in case of an accident, will take care of you.

You can stay overnight in the crater of Pico all year round, however you need to take into account the temperature change (roughly about 10C less on top than on the sea level). I climbed Pico in May with beautiful, sunny weather conditions but at night I was literally freezing even though I had all warm clothes with me and a proper sleeping bag.

Regardless the temperature, the sunrise on top of Pico was one of the most marvellous moments in my life! Worth recommending to everyone.
