THE BLUE ISLAND.
GET TO KNOW
THE ISLAND OF HYDRANGEAS
No other island can boast about that amount of beautiful hydrangeas giving it the "blue island" nickname. However, part of it for a long time was covered in dark dust due to the volcanic eruption which took place in 1957 and resulted it migrations to Brazil, Canada and the USA. Nowadays in the Capelinhos lighthouse you can learn about the history of those times and get familiar with the geological history of all the Azorean islands.
Faial played crucial role as the communications hub between the continents by means of the submarine cable system whereas today it is a main point of reference for international yachting. Unfairly believed to be the island of a one-day visit, it is definitely not possible to discover its hidden gems and dive into its history during such a short stay.
